Question : Problem: eMac freezes at random times

My father-in-laws emac recently started freezing at seemingly random times. Nothing responded after several minutes (it wasn't a virtual memory disk swapping issue that made the computer seem to freeze--it really did freeze), I had to hit the power button (holding for 5 seconds) to reboot. THe usual flower-option-esc types of interrupts didn't have any effect. So after rebooting, I checked the system log files and found entries (several of them) that looked like this (these are two of the actual entries)

Could this be a hardware failure of some kind? I'm hoping it is just RAM, but am worried that the motherboard is at fault.

Thanks

Answer : Problem: eMac freezes at random times

I agree with walkerke for your first course of action. However, if the eMac is a 1GHz or 1.25GHz G4 processor then Apple has a warranty program available for eMacs whose serial number fall in a certian range. Read more about it, and see if you qualify: http://www.apple.com/au/support/emac/repairextensionprogram/
