Question : Problem: KVM switch has delay recognising USB devices
|
|
I've just replaced our old KVM switch which used PS2 connections to a nice USB model.
But whenever we switch from one PC to another, there is a delay of between 3 and 10 seconds before the attached USB devices will function. We don't have anything fancy plugged in - just a keyboard, mouse and barcode scanner.
This is no good for us, as we need to have instant control when we switch over (which we used to have with the old PS2 one). Do all USB KVMs have this delay? Or is it because I've bought a cheap and cheerful one?

I experienced this same annoyance. In fact, a Google search for the phrase +usb +kvm +delay reveals that others have the same complaint.
I think this is common to all USB KVMs. PS2 devices don't connect and disconnect like USB devices do. In fact, if a PS2 mouse in disconnected in Windows XP, it won't work until XP is restarted.
