Question : Problem: Recovering data from improperly removed external HD.
|
|
Recently a girl I work with came to me asking if there was a way to save 12 gigs of pictures from an external HD she uses with her MAC laptop. Apparently she pulled out the USB cable because, "it was taking to long to finish doing whatever it was doing." Currently the HD is unreadable by her laptop, I tried the repair utility on her laptop but it returns a Invalid B-tree Node size error everytime. I know very little about Macs so I was hoping to get some advice on how I might be able to recover the 12 gigs of data? I have seen mention of Disk Warrior on this board but I wanted to be sure before I had her spend $100.

Disk Warrior is very good .. also Data Rescue II (http://www.prosoftengineering.com/products/data_rescue.php)
First I always use the Disk Utility on OSX in the Applications/Utilities folder. See can it repair the external drive.
You could also try the command line tool fsck
