Question : Problem: Dell 1800FP monitor not working

hi everyone,
i hope you can help me.... i bought an 1800FP flat panel monitor on ebay and although it is brand new, it came with no cables. i got a vga-vga cable and the usual power lead for it and tried to get it working tonight but all i get is the power led on and nothing on the screen.
i noticed that the vga cable had 1 pin missing from each end. could this be the cause? if i havent installed the drivers, will i see anything on this monitor when it is connected? why didnt Windows XP recognise it when i plugged it in? is the missing pin the prob?
would really appreciate the help.
