Question : Problem: Is it worth updating a Dell Inspiron 600m Laptop?
My Dell Inspiron 600m laptop will be four years old in August. The ram is only 512 mb and the hard drive is a mere 40 gb. Is it worth upgrading a four year old laptop? The fan was replaced one year ago. Some advantages of this machine is that it is light and compact, non-glare screen, Windows XP SP2 and updating would cost a lot less than a new machine. If it is worth upgrading, what parts would you recommend changing. I would like the best ram, hard drive (250 gb to 320 gb) and a wireless N card. Thanks so much for your assistance!

Sure, it is worth upgrading. 512MB RAM is enough for most apps running under XP, but adding more doesn't cost much and doesn't and will often improve performance. use the following site to get the correct RAM:

Any 2.5" IDE disk will do, and they are also not expensive. Look for a fast version (5200 RPM). I wouldn't get an "N" standard wireless card, as that standard is no real standard yet. Get a "G" card. If I'm not mistaken Dell also has it's own miniPCI cards for this laptop.
