Question : Problem: Fujitsu Amilo with suspected faulty graphics card
|
|
Fujitso Amilo Celeron XPH notebook s/n 3782230288 p/n FSP810U50060 AMILO L6820 Reg no. 755115
No display on screen. Will display to an external TFT connected to the VGA port for about the first 10 seconds when booted up but then "no signal received" message on monitor. Cannot get a display after this without rebooting. Have tried Fn-F4; Fn-F10 cycles. Powers up ok and shuts down from power button. Sounds normal.
Have tried 2 external monitors - same result. Laptop screen flickers occasionally. Seems to suggest a graphics cad problem ratyher than a faulty connection to the laptop screen.
1. Do you agree? - Anything else to consider before advising the client? 2. If graphics, can this be easily replaced by opening the case and slotting in or is it a specialised/difficult job 3. Please recommend a UK supplier for graphics card for this laptop and give the part number
thanks David

Could be 2 problems here. Obviously the laptop screen should be able to display the BIOS setup, irrespective of O/S used. If it can't do that, you may have a hardware problem or some kind of weird BIOS setting that turns off the laptop screen if an external monitor is detected (is it hooked up at this point?) or turns the light down to zero.
Hardware problems may include a bad backlighting source or a bad cable between motherboard and laptop screen.
If the external TFT works in BIOS setup and safe mode, hardware problems seem to be excluded and you may have a settings or driver/software problem. Check settings for resolution and refresh rate to be within limits for your external TFT. Reload drivers, if possible. /RID
