Question : Problem: How to retrieve PC serial and software serials using SCE 2007?

Is it possible (and if so how?) to retrieve an HP computer's serial number using SCE?  Its able to retrieve the PC model and part number but not the serial.  e.g. an HP 6717b laptop serial would be something like CNU711234.  I have been through the Technet site looking at management packs but only found packs for ProLiant and Blade servers.

Secondly, can SCE retrieve software product serials for Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat?

It is not possible to retrieve serial number with SCE. The inventory feature is limited to the standard attributes (around 30) and can't be extended. In SCCM2007 you are able to extend the inventory but not in SCE.

The same thing goes for product serials. I don't know if you are able to retrieve that in SCCM2007, I think it might be scrambled somehow but I haven't tried to get it out.

SCE is a great product but there are some "hidden" limitations that can be really frustrating.
