Question : Problem: Dell PowerVault NS500 Boot from SAN issues

I am having an issue booting from SAN, I have the qlogic config set to boot from SAN but not sure if I needed to add both drives to both HBAs.

Config - NC500 with dual HBAs booting from CX3 with Raid 1 FC drives.

I am able to get windows installed and the qlogic card driver installed to boot from SAN. I am presented with 2 drives to install too. I select one and install the OS. After install is compete the system enters a boot loop, loading the windows 2003 splash screen then starting again and again.

I tried to use the Dell open manage pack with the system prep disk and there does not seem to be a option for boot from san. I would like to use this tool so I am able to do multiple servers and come up with a procedure. Always like to post here before calling dell, since EE usually saves a 2 hour phone call.

Thank you

Answer : Problem: Dell PowerVault NS500 Boot from SAN issues

You OS is seeing 2 disks due to the multi-path nature of your setup. Easiest way to fix this is to remove one of the fibre cables from your host, install Windows and reboot. Once complete load the multipath/MPIO drivers into Windows, reboot and once OK shutdown and re-add the 2nd fibre cable. Windows should then only pick up one disk and boot properly.
