Question : Problem: How to find the IP-adress on a Cisco 800-series router
|
|
Hello! How can I "scan" my LAN for the IP-adress on my Cisco 800-series router? It's working as an HUB now,- but I want it to be used as an router as well?
Also any good links for "Cisco for dummies" ;) I'm all new in this...

If you haven't configured the router yet then it won't have an IP address on the ethernet segment (I assume you have the one with the 4-port Ethernet Hub built in).
The easiest way is to log into the router over a console connection and do a "show run" to get the current config.
If you don't have that level of access to the router, the next easiest way is to ask the person who does!
Other than that, it sounds like you have a small network (maybe only 4 hosts + router) so you could do a ping sweep. Write a batch file to ping all the available IP addresses in your subnet and see which ones respond. You should know the addresses of your PCs, so anything else could be the router.
