Question : Problem: 4 gb Memory upgrade - What's better: 1 gb x 4 slots or 2 gb x 2 slots

I am going to upgrade my workstation with 4 gb of ram.  I have 4 slots currently full with 512mb DDR2 PC2 5300 for a total of 2 gb of ram.  I am going to install 4 GB OF DDR2 PC2 6400.

in terms of performance is it better to install 4 - 1 gb modules or 2 - 2 gb modules?

If you're not overclocking, or planning to upgrade further to 8GB then just go for 4x1GB sticks as it's currently the cheapest option.

Apparently, when overclocking, the clock rates you can get out of the CPU/RAM with all RAM slots full gets reduced, but don't worry about this if you don't overclock.
