Question : Problem: Windows XP and Promixe SX4000

Hi,

   I have a just finished up upgrading an old machine to be my file server, I have put in a Promise SX4000 with 3 x 120GB drives in a RAID 5 array configuration, resulting in 240 GB of available space. Evrerything seems to work fine, except that sometimes the performance of the array drops to 70KB/sec ( you are reading right!) and after a while it goes back up. The server machine is a Dell 4100 ( PIII 933Mhz, 512MB, 3COM Network ). I am currently using Windows XP Pro. Any clues?

Clues about this slowdown can be provided to you by event viewer ..... or run the task manager when the slowdown appears, just to see it's nature .... CPU at 100% or what?
Also, check my computer proprieties if your system is optimized for backround applications.
