Question : Problem: I'm getting very low volume out of my speakers

I'm using a Dell 2400 running Windows XP Pro.  It seems the volume has become virtually un-hearable.

I've tried using different cables, and different speakers, but the volume is still way lower than it should be.  I've cranked up the volume on the speakers, and in the windows volume control.  It happens with Windows Media Player, Youtube, windows sound recorder.  It happens with wav files, mp3 files, etc.

The soundcard is what's integrated into the 2400: SoundMAX

Any suggestions?

Try going to Start -> Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices.  Then under speaker settings, hit the Advanced button.  You can set there what kind of speaker setup you have.  I do not know, however, if this changes the settings in the driver, or merely affects the way Windows produces its sounds.  You can give it a try.
