Question : Problem: Dual 2.0 G5 / AirPort Extreme - Need Wireless
|
|
Unfortunately Apple has made it difficult to get answers, however I did find out that this Power Mac G5 dual 2.0ghz machine does not support the Airport Extreme card - in fact it only supports a combination AirPort / Bluetooth card which Apple doesn't sell. I am forced to bring my machine into the Apple store and have them order the part, if its even available.
Can someone point me to a good name brand device, USB or internal (I don't know if I have PCI slots in there? I have a late June 2005 model) that I can use to enable wireless to this machine? An internal card works, as well as a USB adapter, I just want to make sure I don't waste another $50 on a device that Tiger won't support.

hello 1105 media:
there are various options available to connect your power mac to a wireless network, Here are a Few: Adapter made by Hawking Technologies:
HAWKING (Mfr. #: HWUG1A) - hawking hwug1a wireless-g usb adapter for mac users - ieee Here's the link from their website: http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/productlist.php?CatID=35&FamID=111&ProdID=362&AppleComp=1 You should be able to find at the local compusa or something, and this one is made specifilcally for Apple computers, i saw it on Ebay for about 57$
there's also a cheapo generic brand wireless usb adapter on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/WIRELESS-NETWORK-USB-ADAPTER-4-APPLE-POWER-MAC-G3-G4-G5_W0QQitemZ150118239629QQihZ005QQcategoryZ80060QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
this Dlink product will work on your powermac: http://www.dlink.com/press/pr/?prid=106 this adapter is the DWL air-122 and is a wireless B adapter, meaning it will connect at a maximum speed of 11 mbps. Since it is not a new product, you might have to look for it on ebay or something., I have tried this adapter and it works with a PowerMac G4 that I have.
