Question : Problem: Nework wireless adapter not showing all the time

I have an HP laptop with Windows XP operating system.  I cannot now connect wirelessly to the internet.  Looking in Device Manager the wireless network adapter has disappeared although on odd occasions it comes back.  How can I check if this is a hardware problem and would I be able to fix it or I have to send the laptop to HP?

HP have confirmed that the fault is with the wireless card which they will repair.
