Question : Problem: Third Party Analog Line testing

We currently have 4 fax servers which run Channelized T1 which breakout 24 analog lines each which inturn connect to fax servers. We are looking for a tool/application that can test these lines and alert us if the fax servers are not picking up. Is there anything out there that can help us. We need to be able to determine if the handoff is working and what is happening is we are being alerted by our clients when they cannot send us faxes and then have to reboot the servers to get them working again.

PLEASE HELP!

Answer : Problem: Third Party Analog Line testing

I am assuming you are running Windows.

If you go into the Control Panel, you should have a Modems or Phone and Modems Options.
If you open that up there should be either a list of modems Windows know about, or a tab that you have to select that will show all of the modems.

Double click on one of the modems (if they show up), select Diagnostics, and then double check "Query Modem".

This should return information about  the modem.

This does assume that these devices appear as modems to Windows.

If they don't, then you need to check with the software vendor to see how to do diagnostics on their equipment.
