Question : Problem: Canon D1250U2F Twain problems
|
|
Bought above scanner three days ago. Attached to 1.1 USB port on computer with Windows 2000 Pro.
Loaded up Twain driver and various scanner software from accompanying CDs. Device Manager sees the scanner on the USB port, and a when I press test in the camera and scanners properties within Settings, the scanner makes a little noise, and I get the message that the scanner is working.
However, none of the scanning software that I've loaded nor Microsoft's imaging or scanning software sees the scanner.
I've spoken to Canon Australia's helpdesk. They said that I might have loaded the various software before I loaded the twain driver, which can cause problems with the driver. They directed me to their website to download an uninstall program (Uninstall Utility for Canon Scanners v1.2.2.12)that totally removes the various elements of the driver, so it can all be reloaded in the correct order.
I have done this and reloaded the driver first, then the application software to no avail. I also downloaded the unistall utility from Canon UK in case it was newer. After doing the uninstall again, I've used twain drivers from the canon UK website. I've loaded up different applications afterwards, in case the problem lay there. No help.
I took the scanner back to where I bought it and they tested it on their computer and it worked (although it was an XP Home version of Windows).
Anything else I can do? Do you think that the driver may still not be loading properly? Is there a way of checking and then clearing them manually? Or perhaps I should reload Windows? Or is my computer just faulty?
Incidentally, I also bought a USB2.0 adaptor, as I was planning to upgrade from 1.1 to 2.0. I haven't bothered installing it yet. Could that help?
Thank you.

I have 3 of the same thing, and they were the most anoying thing I have ever installed. Even following their directions step by step I had problems, finally I was able to get it to work with my USB 2.0 card from adaptec.
What I had to do with one of the machines was remove the USB card and reinstall it, then let windows install the drivers by itself when it detected the device on boot. If you have the program to remove their install (i never looked for one of those) unplug the scanner, and remove everything - reboot, and make sure its all removed (try running it again)
Then poweroff, plugin the scannern and poweron - when it detects the device have the CD in and let it install it by itself, don't offer to "help" or it won't work ;-)
