Question : Problem: Printer Problem: Dell Laser Printer 5100cn (color)

Printer Problem: Dell Laser 5100cn color printer - Black faded on the whole right hand side of the page. Other colors are working fine. I'm troubleshooting a copy quality problem and I'm not sure how to handle it. My one question to you all, is there one developer in the printer or is there a developer built in to each toner cartridge? I'm not familiar with this type of printer. I have a HP background and I have copier experience. I know in copiers there is only one developer.

Please respond back to this when you have the time.

Thank You.

Answer : Problem: Printer Problem: Dell Laser Printer 5100cn (color)

The 5100cn has separate developers. The developers are not user-replaceable. The developers rollers are visible when you open the front cover and lift out the drum. In your case, the problem is most likely one of 3 things:

1. Dirt on the black laser window. The laser windows are the dark areas between the developers. The actual (glass) window is recessed behind the developer rollers. You'll notice the toner pipes on the left, next to each developer. Clean the window for the black laser with a cotton bud.

2. A faulty drum (imaging unit). If you have a spare, try replacing it.

3. A faulty black developer.
