Question : Problem: AS400 Terminal Emulation
|
|
I have a customer with 12 or so terminals connected to an AS400 using what I think is twin-ax connections (looks like BNC only thicker). They want to replace some of the terminals with PC's and still connect to the AS400. I suspect that the software side of terminal emulation can be done by Hyperterminal, but what hardware do they use to connect. I know they have the option to put an ethernet card in the AS400 and network that way, but I think this is costly and anyway they only want to replace two terminals. What I am looking for is something like the 3270 emulation cards that IBM used to make but for the AS400. As for terminal types they are mostly C50 (IBM I guess).
Hope someone can help
Dave
ps. I would also be interested in a UK source for the card concerned.

Answer : Problem: AS400 Terminal Emulation

In the old days we used to connect PC's to AS/400s using 5250 emulation cards which accept the same connections as the terminals. 'Black Box' or 'Inmac' may have what you want. How much they cost these days I don't know. If you need any further information, please fell free to email me.
