Question : Problem: RAM for IBM eServer x345

Hi Experts,

Im looking to upgrade an IBM eServer x345 with 2GB of RAM to at least another 2 GB - probably 4 GB. I don't know how the existing RAM is spread out among the available slots. If I bought two 2 GB chips, and all slots were filled, could I just take out two 512Mb chips out(assuming they are all 512 chips)? Does anyone know how many slots it has?  I've attached a spec sheet from the manual.

Oh, and if anyone knows of any good online RAM retailers that would carry this for a reasonable price...

Thanks,
Max

Answer : Problem: RAM for IBM eServer x345

That server has a total of 4 memory slots.  The ram must be installed in pairs and you can install a total of 2 pairs (4 sticks).  Depending on what is in it now, you could simply add 2GB (2x 1GB stick) if one pair of slots is empty.  Or like you said in your question, Yes, you could remove a pair of 512mb sticks and replace with 2x 1GB sticks (or go up to 2x 2GB sticks for 4GB)
