Question : Problem: Flashing -USB device not recognized

Presario with XP Home SP2 has annoying flashing message emitting from system tray.
"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance click this message."
After clicking the message a box pops up and no devices are listed in the box.

Answer : Problem: Flashing -USB device not recognized

1) I would get the latest chipset drivers from the HP site
2)  also get the latest ROMPAQ and flash the BIOS

3) You could have an issue with your USB ports/chipsets/ mobo.
