Question : Problem: Is Backup Exec IDR worth it?
|
|
I have Backup Exec 9.1 with the IDR option installed. I recently started testing IDR and it seems that it has a lot of issues. I can follow the manual exactly, and still have problems trying to recover the server. The most common problem I have had is the .DR file gets corrupt somehow (atleast according to Veritas) and it doesn't know which partitions existed before and so it can't proceed any further. The rest of the problems have been just random issues like data being restored to the wrong drive and server just restarting itself continously after a restore.
Maybe I am doing something wrong which causes IDR to fail. I am just wondering if there are people here who use IDR and how it is working for them.

We don't bother with it in-house but there again all our NT servers have 4GB c: and the rest as d: and our win2000/2003 have 12GB C: so as it's standard config the IDR isn't needed.
We generally add an extra day on site to the install time if IDR is required by customer as it's such a pain finding the RAID controller drivers and getting it to work properly, far easier to install windows and BE and then restore since any manufacturer-supplied driver is generally installed with the OEM install CDs (smartstart etc).
