Question : Problem: How do I add a network printer to an Imac?
I am attempting to add a network printer in a Novell environment to an IMAC computer which has not been added to a domain. I am logged on as administrator.
Going thru the add printer wizard,
using protocol of IPP
address: using ip address of print server which has the NDPS on
Queue: leaving blank for default
Name: using printer name although I'm assuming this field is dumb
location: not sure on this field
Print using: generic PostScript Pinter
The printer adds, I send a test print to it and it says it is busy. It is not and when I check the print queue from novell, it shows idle. I do not have documentation on the computer and the apple web site also shows to do what I have done with the settings listed above.
I have administered PCs but I am somewhat of a novice networking Apples. using osx tiger.
adding an HP printer that I have worked with for about a year with no problem adding it to PCs.
Answer : Problem: How do I add a network printer to an Imac?
You did not mention printer model.
If this is a networked PostScript printer I would use the IP address of the printer rather than the server. The queue name is printer dependent, but leaving it blank or entereing "raw" should do the trick. It's also better to select the printer model, rather than using Generic PostScript (which assumes a bare-bones printer).
If it is not a PostScript printer, then all bets are off.
