Question : Problem: Macbook - DLink DIR 655 Router- Can't Connect

Home network with Dlink DIR-655 router.  No problem accessing wired or wireless with PCs and PC laptops.  When my son brings his Macbook home, he is unable to connect. Message is that Connection failed.  He has no problem connecting with his router at his home.  Any suggestions?  I've turned encryption on and off, I've created new locations on his Macbook. No help

I assume your son is only trying to connect wirelessly??
I also assume this is your router - http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=530

You've started well.  Creating a New Location is a good way to avoid messing up his settings for Home Use.

1st things 1st
On one of your PCs that is working wirelessly... open a DOS prompt and type .. "ipconfig" .. take a note of the IP, router and subnet etc.

Now on the DLink web interface .. lets begin with switching OFF the encryption.
Also check the wireless channel number and that you're supportting wireless protocols b and g
Can you also check that you don't have any MAC address restriction on the router (this is where the router will ONLY allow connections from specific computers - nothing to do with Apple Mac :-)  )

On the Mac.. open System Preferences, Network, Airport, Advanced Settings

Under TCP/IP First try the DHCP settings .. see can you find the wireless network and attempt to connect.

If you manage to connect then you can investigate re-enabling encryption .. I'd recommend WPA with a Preshared Key (PSK)
