Question : Problem: Recommendation for a UPS for my 3 servers and a CISCO router?
|

Hello there, we have had an APC UPS for a while and it appears to be struggling with the load that is now on it. Similarly it is not correctly configured to 'gracefully' shut down the connected computers (2 servers and a desktop machine).
Could anyone recommend the best possible product for the needs detailed below, which would be available in the UK for the best price possible? Whichever solution would require some kind of server/client management software which would allow it to talk to and control any computers which may need shutting down gracefully and safely.
The details of the currently connected machines are as follows:
-------------------------------- Dell PowerEdge PE2900 Intel Xeon E5420 2.49 GHz, 3.99GB RAM
Power consumption
Wattage: 930W Voltage 240V Maximum inrush current may reach 55A per power supply for 10ms or less 2 power supplies (redundant)
--------------------------------
HP ML350 Intel Xeon 3.06GHz, 2.25GB RAM 2 power supplies (redundant)
Wattage: 1000W Voltage: 240V Maximum inrush current may reach 30A per power supply for 3ms or less
--------------------------------
HP Compaq dc7700p Convertible Inter Core 2 6600 2.39Ghz, 1.98GB RAM
Cannot find power consumption values- however this machine will shortly be replaced by a server performing the same role, which I believe will have a similar power consumption to both the servers detailed above.
--------------------------------
CISCO VPN Router (I don't believe this has a large power requirement but it requires to be connected to the UPS for spike and reliability purposes).
--------------------------------
I would be most grateful if anyone could help me with this pressing need - having this kit without a UPS is far from ideal!

Using the APC size selector for your EXACT equipment, assuming max hard drive installed (10 for the Dell), and dualquad core CPUs -(you may only have one), with maxium memory. An APC 2200VA will have a runtime of 22 minutes. I routinely run up to 4 HP DL380 (equivelant to ML350) in a APC 2200 or APC3000 - any have 26 2200/3000s in my data center.
I have no 5K UPS is my data center, they are too large, and I'm not aware of any rack mountable versions, they can also require electricians in install them as they typically are engineered to pull more amps (because your can plug so many devices into them) than a traditional circuit can run. Your max VA according to HP site it 1193. The Dell is similar. Buy the 5K only if you require an hour or more of uptime. http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12475_div/12475_div.html#Power%20Specifications Use this tool to get exact recommendations. http://www.apc.com/tools/ups_selector/index.cfm
