Question : Problem: Sound and Mouse gets Jerky

Hi,

I'm using P4 3.0Ghz, Asus P5S800-VM mobo (SIS),  Leadtek 7600GT DDR3 256mb and onboard realtek sound. I'm using WINDOWS XP SP 2.

Everytime I copy stuff from my USB external hdd to my PC, the pc tends to act slowly and it causes jerks to the mouse and sound.

How do i solve this?

Any idea what could be the cause of it?

Thanks!

If you are using an internal IDE disk, first make sure the BIOS is set to UDMA5 mode. Also check in the device manager of XP that the IDE controller is running in DMA mode and not PIO mode. If all that is OK, try disabling your AV software while copying from the USB disk to the PC.
