Question : Problem: "line in" disabled for PCI sound card (record only)
|
|
I have a C-Media CMI8738 sound card. I installed the card as per the instruction, disabling the onboard audio (soltek SL75DRV, VIA Chipset) before I started. The card installs apparently fine, and when I connect my hauppauge WinTV card to the "line in" jack I can hear it fine - very clear. However, if I try to capture audio, the "line in" option is missing in the windows volume control "Record" properties. the only options there are "mic", "wave" and "stereo mix". I am running windows 200 SP2. There are no errors or conflicts reported against the card, which device manager says is installed and working properly. I AM able to select "line in" as a source for playback. Any ideas ?

Click Start->Run->CMD
Type the following lines exactly from the command prompt (misspelling won't generate an error):
SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1 START DEVMGMT.MSC
In the window that opens, Click View/Show all hidden devices. Find your embedded audio and disable it there in all hardware profiles.
W2k has a bad 'habit' of "seeing" things that have been disabled in BIOS...
