Question : Problem: Error "Print spooler not running"

I have had an HP PSC2200 printer attached to a computer for years. I frequently drive that printer from a laptop (winxp prof.) connected via a wireless network. I now get an error msg saying the spooler is not running. The control panel window says "Unable to connect." I should note that the other computer recently had a trojan horse that forced a reinstall of the operating system but it is now running fine, and I reset the shared printer options.
How can I get the print spooler to start up, or do I need to do something else?
