Question : Problem: Incremental bakup in mysql databse

I am using mysql database in the linux box, I am able to dump the whole database but I want to make the incremental backup instead of the full backup?

Why would you want to incrementally backup a relational database?  Surely it makes more sense to backup the whole database in a consistent state?
