Question : Problem: iTunes drops shared library connection

The situation involves two systems running Vista Ultimate SP1, one is hosting the iTunes library, one is connecting to said shared library.

Whenever I first turn on iTunes, the shared library shows up and functions fine, I can connect to it and play music. After a fairly random amount of time (from 10 minutes to 2 hours) the library will disappear from my system. Sometimes this is in the middle of a song and sometimes this is when no song is playing and iTunes is just idling. Nothing on the hosting system changes during this time. It just sits with iTunes still open and sharing still active.

When Windows Firewall is completely disabled on the hosting computer, this problem disappears. Sometimes restarting iTunes on the host computer will also allow it to show up again on the client computer.

I tried adding an iTunes specific outbound rule to the hosting computer's Firewall (allowing all outbound traffic from itunes.exe), and it seemed to help, but then the problem returned. The client system doesn't have this problem with any other library!

How can I fix this problem? It is semi-recent (started within the last month), and I cannot figure out what could have caused it.

Answer : Problem: iTunes drops shared library connection

I think it may be that the computer hosting the library has had vista updated and that the update, must likely a "security" patch, is breaking the connection.
Go to Control Panel, Add remove programs, look for an entry starting with Microsoft or Vista or Windows that referes to an update regarding a security patch and uninstall it
Also you can restore your computer to a date before your problems started.
