Question : Problem: What is the difference between DDR and DDR 2 RAM?

Hi Everyone:
I am wondering what the difference is between DDR and DDR 2 RAM. From a previously closed post regarding DDR and DDR 2, I realize there is a difference in the number of pins. Thus, a motherboard which supports DDR RAM may not necessarily support DDR 2 RAM because of the difference in the memory bank configuration for the extra pins found in DDR 2.
Any thoughts or ideas regarding this question will be appreciated.
