Question : Problem: Adding to a SAN environment simple question
Hi all,
This should be a simple question for those of you who are more familiar with SAN environments. I am somewhat new to the scene and have been tasked with adding an additional enclosure which will become Storage System 2 to the rack. All of the hardware has been hooked up already but my question to you is basically whether or not I need to power down the current storage system before I power on the new one. Is there a specific way of booting up the SAN so that I can to link them together properly or can I just power on the new enclosure without risk of disrupting the current SAN setup. I will be setting up a new disk pool that will be completely separate from that of the current one in place that is located on SAN Disk Storage 1.
Answer : Problem: Adding to a SAN environment simple question
AX4 SAN storage systems (like all EMC arrays) can ber expanded non-disruptively - that is; you add the new rack of disk live and powered on and the AX4 sees it and adds it to the pool of available disks.
