Question : Problem: Replacing an Intel T2300 with a T2600 (CIntel entrino Duo 1.66 GHz to 2.16 GHz)?
|

Hello, I have an Asus A7J laptop with a 1.66 GHz Centrino Duo processor(T2300). I'm wondering if I can replace the 1.66 GHz processor duo with a 2.16 GHz duo processor (T2600).
Both have the same chipset, so I'm wondering if there are any heat issues that would prevent the upgrade.
Thanks,
Brandon

The only issue I can see would be whether or not the BIOS has the correct support for a T2600. The thermal design power of the T2300 and T2600 is the same (31 watts). The only difference is the clock speed (2.16GHz vs 1.66GHz).
Asus did ship the A7J with a T2400 (the CNET review here has one with the T2400: http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/laptops/0,39030092,49251689-1,00.htm), but I can't find any reference to the T2600.
... so the real question is will the BIOS properly configure a T2600? Asus isn't likely to directly answer this; but the newest version of the BIOS for the A7J (Ver 300, released yesterday !!) includes support for the MEROM CPU's, so I'd guess it also supports all clock speeds for the Core Duo. Just a guess ... but I think there's an excellent chance the T2600 will work just fine => in fact I suspect a T2700 would also work :-) [it also has a 31w thermal spec, by the way]
