Question : Problem: Add 3rd Sata Drive to Rain 0 Configuration

Hi All

I have a customer who would like to add a 3rd Sata Drive as a stand alone Drive to a server currently with a rain 0 config.

Firstly is this even possible?

When i put in the new 3rd hard drive it doesnt show in the computer management, i can see the drive in the raid setup but i am not sure what to do or even if there is anything that can be done.

Windows 2003 x64 all service packs if that helps any.

Answer : Problem: Add 3rd Sata Drive to Rain 0 Configuration

You cannot add a third hdd to a RAID 0. You can reconfigure the RAID to RAID 1 though if your RAID Controller supports - but that would mean destroying existing RAID 0 (and losing all data) and configuring RAID 1.

You could setup the third HDD as a Simple Volume in your RAID Controller, after which it should show up in computer management. But be aware, this HDD isnt in any RAID config, its just configured as a simple volume.(no redundancy for data on this drive)
