Question : Problem: Win-XP, Win-2000 setup hangs during "file copy" phase.

I have an Acer Aspire 1804 Laptop on which I am trying to reload the OS.  When running the setup from a Win-XP-Pro or Win-2000-Pro installation CD, the setup hangs while copying files.  It hangs after copying several files, but never at the same point.  It never reaches the point where you would normally see "Starting Windows" and do the first reboot.  This setup was initiated via a bootable CD

The Laptop's original Win-2000 configuration was acccidentally destroyed (lost NTLDR, among other things). Hence, repair from within Windows is not possible (necessitating the reload from a bootable CD).  I have checked the BIOS and see no available options (to disable) that may be interfering with the setup.

I need to get this Laptop operational ASAP and am at my wits end.  Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
