Question : Problem: How do I export itunes music to a non-apple mp3 player?

My daughters frightfully expensive ipod player died.  She left it in the rain.

She has about 15 GB of music files (most of them from CD's and not downloaded) on her itunes library on her desktop computer.

I want to buy her a cheaper mp3 player (Creative ZEN 30GB) and upload the itunes music from the computer to the new player.  I'm unfamiliar with iTunes software, but I have heard that you can't use it with any device other than one made by Apple.

Is there some software or some work-around for this?

If you open the iTunes folder (Typically My Documents\My Music\Itunes Music) find one of the files and view the properties of the file (right click > properties).  What does it say under "Type Of File"?  If it says "MP3...." then you are in luck and it will import into any audio software.  If it says m4p, then it is a protected file.  It it says m4a, then you can probably import it into most programs (windows media player).

You may need to get a converter.
