Question : Problem: problems when overclocking Pentium D 805 (2.66GHz) on Motherboard Asus P5VDC-X

Hi Experts,

I'm trying to overclock my Pentium D 805 (2.66GHz) on Motherboard Asus P5VDC-X. The Multiplier is 20, default bus speed is 133MHz. I've heard from others that Pentium D 805 is a very nice overclocking CPU, and can be achieved to 3.9GHz - 4.0GHz on good heatsinks and Motherboards

However, I could only get it to 3.0GHz through changing BIOS, as a little over that will cause my system unbootable. I'm using Arctic Freezer Pro 7  heatsink. At 3.0GHz, the CPU runs at 36C when idle, and around 40C when 50% busy, so I think it shouldn't be the heat problem.

So my question is, is it possible to get my CPU overclocked to over 3.5GHz (or even 3.9-4.0GHz if possible) without buying any extra hardware?

Thanks for help!

It sounds like you increase the voltages (cpu and ram), and loosen the ram timing.

This is one of the better articles on OC'ing, I have seen.

It is not the whole story, but should give you a pretty good outline of what needs to be done, and how.

OC'ing is as much of an Art, as just playing with the settings. You really need to read anything you can find on it, especially the hardware you have.
These are some of the sites I used. I haven't been to some of them in awhile, so all the links might not work
