Question : Problem: Inexpensive HD for Presario 2100 US Notebook?
Hello I have an old Compaq Presario 2100US notebook with a bad hard drive and I'm trying to find a replacement that is fairly inexpensive. Don't care about performance too much because the notebook will be used only occassionally for email and a bit of web browsing. The old hard drive has a sticker on it that says "Replace with Compaq Spare 319413-001". Doing a search for that part number I found several prices ranging from $90-$350. Even the $90 is more than I really wanted to pay...plus it's at a store I'm not familiar with (http://www.certifiedcomp.com/shop/product.php?productid=70997) I'm not stuck on buying that particular drive though, if another brand name - hopefully less expensive - will work. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!

The majority of top brand name drives will work as long as you match the dimensions, and the volume size doesn't exceed the mobo/bios capabillities. The majority of lap drives have the same width and length dimensions. The height changes so match your height for a proper fit. Your drive is a 9.5mm.
I've found Craigs List as a great place for cheap lap drives. Try searching their site. My location has 4 listings with 60GIGs at $50. http://raleigh.craigslist.org/sys/130860988.html
