Question : Problem: Cannot start Veritas backup exec services in Windows NT Server

I have problem to start the Veritas backup exec services after rebooting the server. The OS is Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise, using Veritas Backup Exec 8.5 and the tape drive is IBM Ultrium Tape Autoloader. The errors in the event view is as below:

Error 1:
The Backup Exec 8.x Device & Media Service service hung on starting.

Error 2:
The Backup Exec 8.x Server service depends on the Backup Exec 8.x Device & Media Service service which failed to start because of the following error:
After starting, the service hung in a start-pending state.

The tape drive is working properly. I have tried to change the startup type to manual, restart the server again and try to start the services manually still get the same problem.

Currently I have to use NT backup utility for daily backup. Please help!!!

I'd check against your version for patches at http://support.veritas.com/menu_ddProduct_BEWNT.htm and try the diagnostic tool benttool_240872.exe from there plus get the odbc drivers from www.microsoft.com/data.
