Question : Problem: Compaq external 20/40 GB DLT tape drive

I have an external Compaq 20/40 GB DLT tape drive.

(Information from the bottom of the unit: P/N: 30-60085-17, REV: B01, Series 3306, Assembly 340775-002, Replace with Compaq Spare 340770-002.)

I need to connect the unit to a machine running Windows 2000 Professional.  I need to know what kind of SCSI card, cable, drivers, & software are needed.  I did not find anything when looking online.

Could someone please advise?

Thank you.

AFAIK these are single ended SCSI devices. So you need a SCSI card that has a 50-way, SE (single-ended) SCSI bus.

What card you choose will depend on what interface bus the Windows 2000 machine has. If it's PCI, then typically you'd use something like an Adaptec AHA2940 card, which you should be able to get super-cheap on eBay.

You'll need a SCSI 50 way cable, (high density 50-way to probably low density 50-way Centronics, depending on what the connector is on the DLT box) and a 50-way SE (preferably active) terminator.
