Question : Problem: Ok to put desktop memory in a server

Is it ok to put desktop memory in a server? Or could it do damage.
Server is down at present and need it back up asap.

Answer : Problem: Ok to put desktop memory in a server

You need to match the type of memory that you are putting in the server to what it needs....

Depending on make and model you could very well be able to put memory from a desktop PC into it BUT

More often than not server RAM works at different speeds and has Error Correction builtin on the RAM. Desktops dont normally have this.

Take the old RAM out and compare the types...
