Question : Problem: Veritas Backup Exec 9 - Cannot deselect remote selection

A pc backed up with Backup Exec using the remote agent was removed permanently from the network.  The remote selections in Job Setup no longer shows this pc because it's gone, but Backup Exec still attempts to back up the selections from that PC and causes unnecessary errors when the job runs.

How can I deselect this PC in remote selections?

You can't...you have to use the Jobs console and select "Text View" instead of "Tree View" and edit right there....the big problem is that you can only remove one line at a time, so if there are many sub-directories listed, you have to do one line at a time...You can't even use a text editor on the system file since it's in a proprietary format that text editors can't read.  It's still the same way in version 10.x.
