Question : Problem: Resize Raid 1 under Windows 2003 server
|
|
I'm running a DELL Server with Windows 2003 Server as OS and Terminal Server applications. The Server has a RAID 1 and SCSI Drives. I'm running very low with space on C (6GB) and would like to resize to about 12 GB without loosing data or reinstallation.
C:\ 6 GB - 400 MB available D:\ 30 GB - 27 GB available
What's your recommendation?
Thanks,
Horst

My recommendation isn't to resize any partitions, it is rather to optimize the space used on C. Normally 6GB should be more than enough if you use that only for the OS. First make sure you Pagefile is on the other drive and not on C. Then uninstall programs and reinstall them to D. You can also create a temp folder on D and redirect your temp variables to be directed to that folder. Then delete the older \windows\$NTUn..... Folders. These folders contain the files which were replaced by diverse windowsupdates and would allow you to restore an alder version if the update shouldn't work. Such updates which have been working for 2 months or more can be considered as working and will never have to be rolled back, so these can be deleted without problems. Then delete all unnecessary data like temp files, the temporary files in IE, the IE cache and cookies, make the shadow copies folder for C smaller, empty the recycle bin (including the Norton protected files if that is installed). Now defrag C. You should now probably have more than enough space on C.
