hi, im running windows xp 32bit. i have 2gb ram (2 x 1gb sticks of DDR2 800mhz), i fancy a little more. I know windows XP only sees 3gb. My question is do i need to install 2 x512s to make up the extra 1 gb or am i just ok putting 1 extra stick of 1gb in? im having trouble finding 2x512s to be honest.

Ah. Found the article that I'd read before - gives a great explanation (even if he does contradict what we're saying above!)

bottom line - if you HAVE more than 3Gb fitted, the high end Vid cards swipe a huge chunk of memory for mapping purposes
The bit about Dell explains your memory figure.
