Question : Problem: Windows XP looping on last known good configuration
I have a PC running XP Pro. I have heard about this problem but never encountered it, until today. I boot my PC and it comes up to a window saying Windows did not start properly, and it gives me several choices like SAFE MODE, LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION, etc. I select LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION, it tries to load XP, and then it loops around to the same menu again. If I pick SAFE MODE it does the same loop.
I really don't want to have to blow away the hard drive and reload Windows. I also tried booting up to the XP install CD and running recovery console. When it hit R for Recovery Console, it tells me there are no hard drives present in the PC, however, the hard drive is detected by the BIOS, I can FDISK and SEE the hard drive. Any ideas experts? thanks in advance...Bob

I don't know what you mean. How can I selectively load drivers if I cannot even get this PC to boot, even in SAFE mode. Please clarify. thx
