Question : Problem: Restore Database (ARCserve)
|
|
Hi All,
I tried to restore data (MS Word, excel...etc) from tape drive to another external hard disk, unfortunately I can't open some files or detele them. It pop me "don't have permission rights...".
In server I did set only User1 and administrator have full control on FolderA, Users don't have rights. I did a backup FolderA into tape drive, after that I restore FolderA into another external hard disk, when I try to delete FolderA or detele some files on this external hard disk, i can't do it because dont have permission rights.
My question is that if we restore data into external hard disk or other server / machine, how do we have full control on this FolderA? In case server down and I have to restore it into another PC...if can't have a full control how do I open it? or it MUST0 RESTORE ON SAME SERVER?
Please advise.

Ahhh, good ol' NTFS permissions strike again!
The easiest answer is to format the external drive with FAT32 which doesn't support permissions and will then dump them when the files are restored to it. This; though, will give access to anyone who can logon to that drive.
Alternatively, you can grant permission using the advanced button in permissions and checking the box to propagate them to all child objects. Just be prepared to wait a while while it sets them on each and every file.
