Question : Problem: ECC memory for dell precision 360

I bought 4 512 PC3200 ECC dimms for a dell precision 360 off of ebay.  The seller did say it was "server memory" but I couldn't think of any reason why this memory would work in this machine (it supports ECC) and yet here I am.  System gives a 1-3-2 beep code.  I've tried it in different combinations (which has worked for me on some servers but not here).  Any thoughts?

Answer : Problem: ECC memory for dell precision 360

buffered memory is often referred to as "registered" memory.

The vast majority of servers use registered memory.
Register memory has extra chips with are buffers.

non-ECC would normally have 8 or 16 RAM chips on the module.
ECC would normally have 9 or 18 RAM chips on the modules.
Registered has additional [usually smaller that the RAM and usually in the center] chips on the module.

ECC Registered [buffered] DDR
ECC Registered [buffered] DDR
