Question : Problem: gateway ev700 monitor is very dark

i have been asked to fix the aforementioned monitor. Apparently...the owner of this machine went into the display controls by pushing the buttons on the monitor, I believe he pushed the reset button but I'm not sure and the screen wnet dark. the monitor is not in front of me but i did play with it and randomly was able to get into the bright/contrast buttons and with them turned up all the way the picture is very dark but you can see? have tried every control and am not sure what to try next!
