Question : Problem: Microsoft data backup DVD+R disks: Some unreadable, unable to restore data.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit on a Sony VAIO VGN-FW290 with an Optiarc BD-ROM BC-5500S disk drive.  I made a set of 9 data backup DVD+R disks in March, using Windows 'Backup Files' option from Control Panel.  In April it became necessary to do a complete system restore. After the system restore, I tried to restore the backed-up data, but only 4 of the 9 disks  were readable, so data recovery was not possible.  I can see that the unreadable disks have been burned.   I have tried the disks on my wife's computer, with the same disks readable and unreadable.  The 'properties' for the unreadable disks show 0 bytes used, 0 bytes free.  What can I do to rescue the data from the unreadable disks?

Answer : Problem: Microsoft data backup DVD+R disks: Some unreadable, unable to restore data.

I don't really think software will be able to recover much of your data. You might be able to recover some. It depends a bit on how you made your backups. If you used a backup software which normally create and archive file with all the data within that file on you DVD, I doubt isobuster will be able to help as the file will be corrupt, while on the other hand if you backed up your files in a normal file structure it may be able to get more of your data.

A recovery agency will also try other than just software only methods, and these should be more successful.

At least I think you can use the trial version of isobuster first, it may give you an idea of what you can recover with it before you buy it.
