|
|
hi, i am running an intel mobo with a sata drive and made an image of it. I then put in a second ide drive. It is the only item on the ide controler. however, when i plug the power in on the ide drive, i get a message. it says " problem loading operating system. If i unpower the drive, and only use the sata ( which i never removed, it starts just fine. so second drive on the ide channel is preventing booting of f the sata drive...
the operating system is on the sata drive.
why is this happening

If the boot order is wrong, this could easily make a difference. The system may be looking for the primary IDE drive, then the primary SATA drive => so if you move the drive off of the primary IDE connector the system will boot. Sounds like the BIOS hard drive boot order is all you need to change. Then you should be able to jumper the driver per WD's recommendations (no jumper) and use it as the Master on the IDE channel.
So ... check the boot order !! Note: you need to look at the hard drive order; not just the basic boot order.
If you have any further questions on this, please post the following information as well: (1) Motherboard model; (2) Hard drive make/model; (3) Are you using an 80-wire cable?
