Question : Problem: Trying to add VLANs to a Cisco 1841
I have a Cisco 1841 running ADVIPSERVICESK9-M v12.4(15)T4. The device is in a remote office with two point-to-point T1's to the main office. We need to implement VLANs at the remote office.
The commands that I've used before (on a 3745) don't seem to work:
In config mode, 'int vlanXXX' is invalid ('vlan' isn't a good option), nor is the 'switchport' command available in config-interface mode.
The only vlan-type command I can find is 'vlan database'.
Do I have the wrong version of IOS, or do I need to turn something on?
Answer : Problem: Trying to add VLANs to a Cisco 1841
You need an Etherswitch module in the 1841 to create VLAN's on the router. You can however trunk between the 1841 and a VLAN capable switch and create layer3 interfaces on the 1841 for the multiple VLAN's if the switch doesn't support routing.
